The vision of women on Youtube

Dernière mise à jour : 16 mars 2020

In an interview with the french version of Cosmopolitan, Juliette Katz, the girl behind the french YouTube channel "Coucou les Girls" express a desire to have fun, and the fact that she loves self-mockery. But she explains that it opens the door to hateful and sexist comments. The vision of a woman on YouTube is biased, replaced by a stereotype of beauty: "she is too fat", "she is too thin", "she wears too much makeup", "she should wear more makeup ". A woman's physique must be respected by others because it's beautiful just the way it is. Women shouldn't be scared, they shouldn't feel attacked on something as superficial as their physical aspect, all because they dare to show themselves and assert themselves in front of the whole world.

Unfortunately, a lot of female YouTubers receive these kinds of hateful comments daily, it can create complexes. Is it normal? Can't a woman live the way she wants and do what she wants without being criticized and get a multitude of reproaches that lowers her self-esteem to the stage of simple ornament, without personality?

"I believe since the moment when you are a woman and you do not beauty video, it's a problem for some people" - Juliette Katz

I can only say one thing: beauty is something subjective, which offers as many differences as there are people. I don't pretend to change the point of view of the ones who judge at first glance, but I hope to reassure all those who are suffering, men or women, who feel bad about themselves or are continually hurt by harmful remarks from unknown or even close relatives.

Love yourself as you are, because being yourself is the most beautiful thing about you.
